The Hong Kong Chess Federation is proud to host The Asian Rapid Chess Team Championship at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai from August 21 to 25. This tournament marks a significant milestone as the first large-scale chess event of its kind in Hong Kong in recent years, made possible through the generous support of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and government funding. Drawing participants and officials from about 30 regions, including Russia, India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South Korea, and Australia, this championship boasts a prize pool totaling HK$250,000. Expecting a gathering of 200+ elite chess players from both local and international circles, the championship team stands to claim a substantial prize of HK$100,000.
World-Class Chess Players Converge
The Asian Rapid Chess Team Championship marks a historic milestone as Hong Kong's inaugural large-scale chess extravaganza in recent years, drawing an elite assembly of top-tier players from across the globe. Among the distinguished participants are Ju Wenjun, the four-time Women's World Chess Championship titleholder from China, Russian chess maestro Rozum, Ivan, and a host of national chess federation champions. Furthermore, a "World Champion Meet & Greet" session have been arranged, inviting former World Champion and chess Grandmaster Ni Hua from China to interact and exchange insights with chess enthusiasts, promising a truly grand spectacle for the Hong Kong chess community.
Fostering Competition, Charity, and Cultural Exchange
To promote community engagement, the conference is partnering with Heep Hong Society and The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education to organize international chess workshops and guided tours. Led by seasoned coaches, these sessions aim to elucidate the strategies and cognitive nuances of chess, nurturing a passion for this intellectual pursuit among students. Additionally, an experiential activity zone at the venue will be set up, granting complimentary access to the public. By solving international chess problems and completing tasks, participants can partake in a gift exchange, fostering the widespread appeal of chess and enticing more youth to join the fray.
