China Wins Asian Rapid Chess Team Championship

China’s Schnappi Krokodil team claimed the top spot at the Asian Rapid Chess Team Championship, held in Hong Kong. The tournament, organized by the Hong Kong Chess Federation, Asian Chess Federation, and International Chess Federation (FIDE), featured over 200 players from 20 regions and 34 teams.
Schnappi Krokkodil, led by a lineup of Chinese players Xu Xiangyu, Bai Jinshi, Li Di, Zhao Yuanhe, Zhao Shengxin, Mao Yingzhou and Du Yuxin, secured the championship title and a cash prize of HK$100,000. Their strategic play saw them overcome strong teams from Indonesia, Russia, and other Asian countries.
Indonesia’s Jabar Juara finished second, followed by Russia’s The Formula of Chess in third. Shanghai Chess and Card Sports Management Center, represented by Ju Wenjun, a four-time Women’s World Chess Championship champion and Ni Hua, former world champion and national women’s team head coach, took fourth place. The Red Pseudodragon, an emerging Asian team featuring players from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Thailand, placed fifth after a hard-fought series of matches.
The tournament saw tough competition among many of the world’s top chess players, including over 50 FIDE titleholders. Team Sky, composed of players from Hong Kong and mainland China, won the U1800 division. Hong Kong’s young chess talents, including Lam Chun Yung Samuel, Fan Wenxi, and Poon Pak Yu, aged between 11 and 14, earned individual board awards.
With a USD30,000 prize pool and top players from across Asia, the Asian Rapid Chess Team Championship has become a key event in the region. China’s performance continues to highlight the nation’s strength in chess on the international stage.
As part of its community outreach, the event partnered with Heep Hong Society and The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education to organize chess workshops and guided tours aimed at introducing students to the sport. Led by expert instructors, the sessions provided a structured introduction to chess for young learners.
The event also featured a “World Champion Meet and Greet” with former Chinese world champion Ni Hua. Participants had the opportunity to interact with and play against the renowned chess master, further enhancing the event’s engagement with the local community.

Manila---FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca will banner The Red Pseudodragon team in the Asian Rapid Chess Team Championship 2024 which will be held from August 22 to 28 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
It will be recalled that Arca had made an unprecedented feat when he emerged as champion in the Open Blitz Competition of the World Youth Chess Championship in Montesilvano, Italy on November 12-25, 2023. In the past few months, he was also awarded as champion in the Grandmaster Norm Tournament in Vietnam last May 2024, Gold Medalist in both the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2024 in Kazakhstan on June 9-21, 2024 and in the Eastern Youth Chess Championship 2024 in Malaysia on July 12-21, 2024.in the same event of Blitz Chess Competition.
"I'm so grateful for this opportunity to be able to play in a different level tournament like the Asian Rapid Chess Team Championship 2024 in Hongkong," said the 15-year-old player from Panabo City Davao Del Norte, who is also fresh from winning the Hamungaya Chess Festival 2024 last August 17, 2024 in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
A Grade 10 student of Panabo City National High School under the guidance of Coach AGM Ramil Langgamon and School Principal Mr. Manuel M. Esperanza is seeking to become the country's newest International Master.
Also competing in Hongkong from the The Red Pseudodragon team are WGM Miaoy Lu of China, IM Prin Laohawirapap of Thailand, IM Adelard Bai of Chinese-Taipei, Jamison Edrich Kao of Hongkong, CM Kaushik Ashwath, WIM Kylen Joy Mordido of the Philippines, Haoming Qu of China and FM Abilmansur Abdilkhair of Kazakhstan.

【明報專訊】首次在香港舉辦的亞洲國際象棋（快棋）團體賽假伊利沙伯體育館上演，大會昨舉行開幕禮，並緊接進行4回合比賽。促成賽事舉辦的中國香港國際象棋總會名譽會長高鼎國表示，盼藉此鼓勵新晉棋手，希望打造香港成為亞洲的「國際象棋之都」。
亞洲國際象棋（快棋）團體賽由昨日起一連4日於伊館舉行，並吸引近20個國家或地區選手角逐，包括為港隊出戰去年杭州亞運的李奕衡、林景蔚、高家瀚及梁凱婷共3男1女參賽，而高家瀚偕來自內地、中華台北、菲律賓、泰國及印度選手，組成平均年僅14歲的隊伍「The Red Pseudodragon」出戰。對於今次面對世界頂尖棋手，15歲的高家瀚充滿信心道：「如果我們隊伍盡力應可爭取前3名，當然更希望拿到冠軍。」
至於籌委之一的香港國際象總名譽會長高鼎國昨受訪時表示，舉辦是次賽事是源於兩年前總會已加入港協暨奧委會，「這讓我們具備條件讓新晉棋手有一個平台接觸高手，冀打造香港成為亞洲的『國際象棋之都』」。被問及為何選擇舉辦快棋而非其他種類，他稱皆因這項目節奏較快可吸引觀眾入場，亦讓家長可了解智力運動怎樣運作，從而支持此項運動發展。
另贏得全國國際象棋錦標賽（個人）女子組冠軍、來自中國杭州的14歲年輕「棋后」鹿妙夷，今次亦有參戰，她透露由7年前已經進入職業隊，「國際象棋的吸引之處是有體育精神，也涉及智力較量」。「一零後」的她又提及內地競爭非常激烈，但自己現已躋身國家隊一隊。
賽事免費入場 冠軍獎金10萬
今次團體賽由於以「快棋」方式舉行，意味每名棋手有15分鐘自由時間，每行一步均可增加10秒，賽制採用瑞士制形式進行，共有32組隊伍參與11個回合比賽，每回合分為16組，其中每隊在每回合需派出6名隊員參賽，隊伍在每回合贏得比賽可獲1分，若和局雙方均得0.5分，經過全部回合便能決出最高分隊伍為冠軍，其中冠、亞軍隊伍獎金分別為10萬及6萬港元。此外，市民不但可免費入場觀看，大會更於明日安排「世界冠軍見面會」，邀請了中國前世界冠軍、國際象棋特級大師倪華與大眾見面交流。

【Now Sports】2024亞洲國際象棋（快棋）團體賽8月21至25日於伊利沙伯體育館舉行，賽事超過200名來自亞洲國家及地區選手參加，也是香港首次舉辦國際級的象棋大賽，比賽獎金達3萬美元。隨著奧運熱潮在香港延續，賽事可以令香港市民更加投入於益智型運動，並加深對國際象棋認識。

值得一提是，今次比賽的最佳業餘棋手，可獲聖若瑟書院150周年國際象棋「聖若瑟盃2025」參賽資格。這項盃賽由聖若瑟書院舉辦的業餘冠軍賽，這個特別賽事將於明年4月舉行，作為學校150周年校慶慶祝活動的一部份。
在此次亞洲國際象棋（快棋）團體賽中，評分在2300分以下的頂尖棋手將被邀與另外多名FIDE業餘世界冠軍賽的獲獎選手，一同參加明年的「聖若瑟盃」，爭奪可觀的獎金。除了獲得參賽機會外，得獎者的獎品還包括全額支付往香港的機票和住宿，值得一眾棋手上演一番龍爭虎鬥。
最終，亞洲國際象棋（快棋）團體賽決出分數在2300以下的最佳業餘棋手，得主來自越南的女子國際特級大師黃氏寶簪。就此，聖若瑟書院副校長司徒仲弘隨即上台頒發大型「入場券」予對方，並向參賽者致賀及感謝他們為這個比賽付出的努力，期待明年在「聖若瑟盃」再展超群棋藝。
明年「聖若瑟盃」將是該項賽事第二屆舉行，而第一屆就在6年前舉行過，當年校方請到來自8個國家及地區的世界冠軍級棋手參與超快棋及快棋比賽，並請來相應國家包括俄羅斯、蒙古、哈薩克等駐港總領事到臨主持開棋禮。最終，賽事總冠軍由印度棋手奪得，而香港唯一代表是國際象棋世界業餘快棋冠軍林景蔚，他亦是聖若瑟書院1993年畢業生，將再次代表香港出戰來年的第二屆賽事。
至於其餘6個將參與明年「聖若瑟盃」的棋手包括，2名來自哈薩克的選手、印度、蒙古、中國及香港棋手各1人，當中不乏國際大師級棋手。

由中國香港國際象棋總會、亞洲棋聯以及世界國際象棋聯合會合辦、「文化體育旅遊局藝術及體育發展基金」資助舉辦的「亞洲國際象棋（快棋）團體賽」於日前(27日)圓滿舉行。這場比賽吸引了約二十個地區、三十四隊共二百多名選手參賽，大會亦邀請了十多個地區的裁判主持比賽。經一連三天的激烈比試，冠軍最終由中國隊伍 - 小鱷魚隊（Schnappi Krokkodil）奪得，獲得10萬港元獎金。

為提高社區參與度，大會與慈善機構協康會及教育機構資優學苑合作，舉辦國際象棋工作坊及導賞團，安排導師精心準備教學課程，讓學童能夠對國際象棋有良好初體驗。除此之外，活動還安排了不同的周邊活動，例如：「世界冠軍見面會」，邀請了中國前世界冠軍倪華與大家見面及對弈，吸引了不少象棋愛好者前來參與。

The Filipino Chess Club Hong Kong, made up mostly of overseas Filipino workers, won one of the top prizes at the recently concluded Asian Rapid Chess Team Championship 2024, held from Aug 22 to 24 at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai.
All members of the FCC-HK went home with a medal each after their team won first prize in the U2200 category, beating a number of high-ranking chess teams across Asia.
Team captain Edwin Borigas led the winning team, which showed exceptional skill and determination especially during the final stretch of the competition, particularly FM Daniel Causo and NM Rolly Parondo.
Fighting off initial setbacks, FCC HK rallied back to clinch a crucial win in their final match, earning for themselves a well-deserved place in the top standings.
Vice Consul Allan G. Revote who attended the event to show support for FCC-HK, was happy to witness their remarkable win. He said that the team’s victory exemplifies the Filipino community’s spirit of camaraderie and excellent sportsmanship.
“The Consulate looks forward to their success and remains committed to supporting their future endeavors,” said VC Revote.
Apart from Borigas, Causo and Parondo the other members of FCC HK team were Julie Ann Mendez, Felix Gonzales, Emir Gamis and Gerald Felipe.
The Asian Rapid Chess Team Championship 2024 showcased top talent from across the Asia-Pacific region. With a US$30,000 prize, the event attracted over 500 participants from various Asian Federations, all competing for the championship title.
